The last 24 hours

It is about 1pm, Wednesday 11th of July. We have just come back from the specialist. He could not have delivered better news.

He was pretty darn happy. He had been to Fremantle already this morning and checked the biopsy from my pelvis. He said, “This is bloody brilliant!”

The preliminary tests have not shown any spread of the Myeloma into the rest of the bones!! He was quite surprised and said that the suggested treatments we were gearing up for will be on hold, may not even have to go through with them! Radiation will be the primary treatment, and that will be over the next 4-6 weeks. I have never been so happy to hear that I have to have radiotherapy!

He is trying to book me in for another biopsy tomorrow, this time directly from my sternum. That is going to be uncomfortable I think, but bring it on!

It is unbelievable. Today we had our life insurance papers that had been sent out to us for the specialist to fill in, we were preparing to see the fertility clinic, we had given our family details for possible stem-cell and marrow donors, and I was preparing to have my last day of mobility before the heavier treatments were scheduled to start!

There is a lot more to this story than what I have been able to write up at this stage, so I will fill in the gaps in a bit later.

God has been pretty darn good to us.

I will feel a lot better tomarrow

This is the initial post for this site. My sincere thanks to my brother Guennadi who got this up and running for me. It is a video blog so the footage we have taken will be posted over the next week.

Yesterday I had an MRI of my entire body to see the extent of the cancer. We got the results back today and the best news we have had so far is that the myeloma is not visible in my neck, spine, pelvis or anywhere else aside from the sternum. This news made us incredibly relieved. I have been fearing the worst as I have had a sore neck for quite some time and have lost a lot of mobility. I can’t really turn my head much to the side, so everytime I reverse a car, it is an act of faith.

My bone marrow biopsy was today. The doctors at Fremantle hospital did a great job and I was very rarely uncomfortable. They took a core out of my hip through to my pelvis for testing. I couldn’t walk afterwards for a while, and even now, the puncture is still weeping and it is hard to walk.

I slept most of the afternoon while Libs took calls. We have been inundated with support from all over the place.

It is almost 1am Wednesday morning and Libs is asleep. We are just about to head out to the airport to pick up Ann (Elizabeth’s Mum). She was meant to fly in at about 10:30 yesterday morning but has been delayed from Hobart and Melbourne until now. I think I have got things tough! It will be great to have here here.

We see the specialist tomorrow for the lowdown on my treatment.
