What this blog is about

The purpose of this website is to keep folks up to date with what is going on with my body. My physique, second only to a Greek God, hides the torment of a body raging against itself for no apparent reason. Like young children fighting in the back seat of a car on a long journey and annoying the rest of the passengers- what is going on in my body is being rather annoying to the rest of me.

I have been diagnosed with a cancer of the plasma cells, or Multiple Myeloma. We weren’t particularly thrilled with this news, but I am confident that great things will come out of it. I am inviting people, beit family, friends, or those just passing through, to join me in The Walk Beside. I know I cannot get through this alone, and I hope that this may be an encouragement to those who may be going through similar circumstances. Therefore, the invitation is for you to walk beside me in what I am expecting to be a difficult road ahead.

At this stage, if you are reading live, you have just as much idea how this journey ends as I do.

I believe my Creator is involved and if you are going to walk beside me, know that I am taking this journey with this perspective. I am not asking you to agree with what I talk about or my actions as a result, just walk with me and see where it takes us.

Feel free to comment or drop me a line. I hope this journal is as helpful to you as it is to me.

Hi Cam, I received your text and heard the unwelcome news about the cancer, I think this site and blog are an excellent idea both for you and those who love you loads. If anyone can cope with this it is you, you always appear to have a lot of strenght and a lot of joy about you and like you said what a wonderful family and support group. I welcome the chance to get to walk the journey with you. It seems there are few people these days whos lives are not touched by cancer, Jody (my ex) who I think you met in England lost his father on Monday after a rare form of skin cancer. Also we know those people who have overcome the disease. Would love to finally take you up on that offer of coffee sometime if you have a free moment. Lots of Love Rachel x

Cam – the blog is a brilliant idea. After I saw you this morning, to be honest, I was shell shocked. The blog will help your friends and family walk the journey with you every step of the way. Please know that you and Elizabeth are always welcome here, and Zsa Zsa (my loving blue Burmese) does do house calls should you feel like some company or cuddles during the day :-) Cheers Terry x x x

Hi Cammo,

Neil from Tassie here.

I’m stunned by the news (Philly L rang me yesterday & told me.) A massive journey has begun for you & yours. Words will be inadequate but God will show you more than enough adequacy to cope with the fear, anger, fury, questions and pain this road will bring.

He will be there for the long haul and He’ll be the only rhyme and reason for this.

Hey Cam and E-liz,

A bit tongue-tied (or finger tied!) – this is a fantastic idea and a great way to share the journey with people who love you guys and people who don’t yet know you! I don’t know you guys heaps well but I know enough to say that your lives already are a testament to other people. Thank you for being willing to share this stuff publicly and I pray that you will be comforted by knowing that so many people care, and that your stories will draw everyone who travels with you closer to God.

God bless you both heaps, tell you what, the Body of Christ will be walking beside you every step of the way.

love Sarah M from the Mission :)

Hi Cam,
This website is a fantastic idea, as I know there are many of us that want to pray for you or ‘do’ something. Often there is nothing that anyone can do but be present and walk beside you. I read your profile and had a tear in my eye for no other reason than the knowing there is an Awesome God at work in your life, whos Love and Care for you is beyond measure and that is the Truth, may Truth rest with you today. Much Love Sam and Girls

Hi Cam,
Bonnie called us late last week to pass on the news. Much shock here too. Christine and I will continue to pray for you and Elizabeth. Great to hear that things are looking up – as you say, it’s a long road, and we’re with you all the way.
Love Dave, Christine, Nathan, Luke and Paul (yes we have three boys now!)

Hi Cam,
Heard the news through the family and this site from JD at work. It seems forever since I ran into you but it was only a few months back. It is a hard thing knowing that someone I grew up with in church and school at the same age is suffering. I will be keeping up with you on your blog but feel free to contact me anytime.
I was glad I ran into you when I did.

Hi Cam
I spoke to your parents tonight at CBC and your mum told me about this site – I was glad that I’d be able to find out what’s happening and get updates on how you are rather than having to bug your parents.
Mum and the girls send their love too – we’re thinking of you and Elizabeth and will be praying for you both.
Love Sarah

I’ve been walking with you since Elizabeth first shared your news. Just sat here today revisiting the journey….reflecting..tears….laughter…sharing your emotions.
You are both inspiring! The love which surrounds you from your family & friends coupled with your positivity will support you through this journey.
This blog site is a fab idea. I will be amongst the crowd walking beside you both. Keep strong

Hello Cam And Elizabeth. Derek And I are walking a similar journey.Have been for the last 51/2 years and he’s still with me. God has been faithful and Derek has made a committment during the extra time he’s had.Your mum and dad might like to know that. Stay focused on the positives, not the negative bits the Drs say. They don’t take into consideration the will to overcome. I am proud of my old boy and I’m proud of you and what you’ve done here. If you agree, I’d like to continue to walk beside you as we walk along.God bless you all Loving thoughts from the Albany Sandells clan

Hi Cameron and Elizabeth

I was involved in the bridal party with you both, at Tash and Damo’s wedding many moons ago, and have only just heard about the journey you are on. My family, friends and I will certainly be upholding you both in prayer. God is faithful.
Love Hazel and Colin O’Neill x
